Large Animal Imaging Facility

Overview of Services

Large Animal Imaging Facility (LAIF) Core

Welcome to our new Large Animal Imaging Facility Core at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where we house a state-of-the-art 3T Siemens VIDA MRI scanner that provides infrastructure to support large animal research. Our goal is to support translational research activities that bring diagnostic, therapeutic, IND and IDE from bench to bedside in an efficient and cost-effective manner. This includes advanced MR image-guided interventional and non-invasive (in vivo) procedures to study neurodegenerative, cardiothoracic, reproductive disease and diseases related to functional and structural changes. Applications include anatomical, diffusion, perfusion, spectroscopy, angiography, functional, flow quantification, elastography and susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI). The LAIF core is open to all investigators, whether to CHOP or external investigators (academic and commercial), who want to use our MRI instrument. In collaboration with and the support of our highly skilled Division of Veterinary Resources (DVR) team, we encourage investigators to consult all aspects of scientific, medical, and compliance issues related to animal-based research and to receive IACUC approvals.
