Overview of Services

Our Mission:  CHOP seeks to be a national and international leader in the collection, processing, and analysis of biosamples for the purpose of cutting-edge research with a biobanking resource that simultaneously empowers individual investigators to develop novel biobanking efforts to support particular research efforts and positions the institution as a source of an increasingly comprehensive, institutionally supported centralized repository of samples.

Our Goal: Establish a premier biobank with a well-defined and targeted set of biospecimens and supporting services. Enable support for both ongoing research and future studies that employ new and emerging technologies. Provide the highest quality biomaterials, specimen services, technical consultation and logistical support.

Our Vision: To become a world-class collaborative pediatric biobank.

How We Operate

  • We work mainly on a project by project basis.
  • We support Investigator-initiated, Divisional, and Center-based IRB-approved biobanking efforts.
  • Projects are approved via the BioRC Operational Committee (BOC*).
  • Projects must meet the institutional principles for biobanking.

BioRC Rush Charges:

  • BioRC will provide estimated completion time for projects and requests based on current work in our queue.

Projects that have demanding timelines that are significantly shortened compared to the BioRC estimate and that require allocating additional or all staff to assist (e.g., all hands-on-deck) will incur a 2X rush charge.
