The mission of the Small Animal Imaging Facility (SAIF) at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is to provide researchers from CHOP and surrounding institutions access to a state-of-the-art preclinical imaging edquipment. Our goal is to facilitate the testing of new drugs and technologies for the treatment of human diseases.
The SAIF provides access to the whole spectrum of preclinical imaging modalities, including ultrasound, MRI, PET-CT, optical imaging systems capable of bioluminescent and fluorescent imaging and NMR machine with a capability of specimens imaging.
MRI, PET-CT, Optical, and ultrasound imaging machines locate at Colket Translational Research Building (CTRB) building at C-level, NMR-spectrometer is on the 4th flow of Abramson Research building.
The facility offers both instruments that are easy to operate for the non-radiologist user (Opticals and Ultrasound imagers) as well as the latest imaging modality (MRI, PET-CT) for experts in radiology, physics, and engineering. The instruments are located in the animal facility and repeated studies can be performed, which provide longitudinal data in the same subject and reduce the number of animals required for such studies. Aanalyses of such animal models greatly accelerate the development of new therapeutic strategies for a variety of diseases. A range of imaging and contrast reagents are available for monitoring disease phenotypes in animal models, evaluation of novel therapeutic interventions, image data post-processing, and quantification.
