The pathology core is now located in Colket Translational Research Building (CTRB) in the A level room A410.
Here are directions for where to find us. We look forward to working with you!
UPENN User Access:
Colket Translational Building A Level is currently accessible thru card access only. In order for UPENN users to access the building a CHOP "Token" must be obtained with security to allow you to swipe into the elevators with your ID badge. Instructions for obtaining a token are located here:
Once you have obtained your token contact Dan Martinez: martinezd@chop.edu in order to have security add you to the list for the A level elevators. CHOP Tokens must be renewed annually.

The Pathology Core Laboratory at the Research Institute at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia provides basic histopathology, research immunohistochemistry, tissue microarray, and digital slide scanning services to researchers at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and within the surrounding academic community. We offer a full range of histopathology services for both paraffin-embedded and frozen tissue samples including tissue processing, embedding, and cutting. We also perform most standard stains as well as immunohistochemistry, antibody workup, fluorescence, in situ hybridization and TUNEL. Tissue microarrays can be constructed and our staining services may be used on slides acquired from the arrays. Sophisticated imaging instrumentation is available for both bright field and fluorescent microscopy including whole slide scanning. We also host specialized software to analyze, manage, and store data on stained tissues and arrays.
We are located in the A Level of Colket Tranlational Research Center (CTRB) in room A410. Daniel Martinez (267-426-5635 martinezd@email.chop.edu) is the Lab Director and can address all questions regarding basic histopathology, research immunohistochemistry, tissue microarray and imaging. Dr. Ben Wilkinsoni, M.D./PhD. is the Faculty Director.
If you publish research supported by the core facility please include us in your acknowledgments:
“We thank the Pathology Core Laboratory at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute for providing services”
To All Digital Slide Users:
Leica is ending their support of e-slide manager, and we are in the process of evaluating alternative solutions for software to host the digital slides that the path core scans for our customers. Importantly the software that we choose will impact how are users are able to access, view, share and analyze the slides that we scan.
Updates 12/8/2025
Thank you for those who participated in the previous demo’s. We have scheduled a follow up session with Procia this coming Thursday (see below). I encourage our current users to participate, provide us with feedback, and champion the solution that would be the best fit for your labs. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Procia Sandbox Demo Kickoff
We have a kickoff meeting for a demo site that Procia has set up for us. We will have digital access to the site for a week to try it out and take a deeper dive. I would invite any of our current customers to participate and provide feeback.
